Stewardship America has a major partner as part of its Conservation Delivery Team. Purpose of the partnership is to "harness the market economy" and put private enterprise and private initiative behind an effort to address multiple issues on a “landscape basis” – including permitting, regulatory compliance, rural economic development, smart growth and environmental conservation and protection. The effort is known as “Landscape Conservation Solutions." And the partner is CH2M Hill, Inc., which has built a stellar reputation over almost 60 years of business as a major project delivery firm specializing in infrastructure systems, engineering, environmental services and sustainable development. CH2M Hill, Inc. also has recently added a new business division devoted to land development. It has 165 offices and 14,000 employees working at 500 project locations in 30 countries. One hundred of the company’s offices and half of its employees are in the U.S. CH2M Hill, Inc. has won accolades for its projects, been named Business of the Year and was recently rated one of the 100 best companies to work for by FORTUNE Magazine. By joining as a Conservation Delivery Team member, CH2M Hill, Inc. is making a commitment to build on the “Farmland Stewardship Program,” which was introduced in the U.S. Congress by Rep. Adam Putnam (R-FL), incorporated in the 2002 Farm Bill by the Republican chairman and ranking Democrat of the House Agriculture Committee, refined by a bipartisan group of Senators from the south and plains states, and is being implemented through Section 2003 of the Farm Bill (for details, see http://privatelands.org/legislation.htm). CH2M HILL also is building on the Rural Lands Stewardship Program, which was implemented in Florida State law in 2001 and 2004 (for details, see http://privatelands.org/rural/index.htm) CH2M Hill is moving forward to expand on the concepts underlying these programs and to turn them into a series of “Total Land Solutions."
